| | | The Division of Developmental Disabilities is located within the Department of Economic Security and serves over 30,000 people with cognitive disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy and epilepsy. Arizona's developmental disabilities service system is unique in that most services are provided through a bundled 1115 waiver of long term care, acute care and behavioral health supports. The waiver uses a managed care model and the Division is rated as being among the highest in the nation for serving people in the family home.
The Deputy Assistant Director reports to the Assistant Director for the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Major areas of responsibility include planning, organizing, directing and leading the day-to-day activities of the six (6) district programs encompassing multiple local program offices throughout the state. These activities include planning, organizing and coordinating program goals, objectives and performance strategies governing the statewide operation of the division; budget preparation and implementation; interpreting, implementing and enforcing complex state, and federal policy, laws and regulations and ensuring smooth integration of regulatory requirements into division programs; and handling all personnel related activities. The Deputy Assistant Director builds and maintains relationships with consumers, families, other agencies and other stakeholders. The Assistant Director and Deputy Assistant Director provide vision and guidance to the Division's 1,800 employees, the network of over 600 provider agencies and 3,000 independent providers. The incumbent represents the Assistant Director at operations-related meetings and acts as Assistant Director in their absence. | Skills/Requirements
| | | The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years of senior level management experiences in the field of developmental disabilities, including two years in the public sector, experience in the field of community based developmental disabilities, a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, special education or related field. Requires considerable knowledge of public administration, complex service delivery systems, and laws and regulations related to programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will have budget management experience, extensive experience in supervising employees in dispersed offices and enjoy working in a fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate comfort leading in a time of change, balancing the reality of declining state resources with new opportunities to support consumer driven choices.
Expertise should include ability to effectively manage staff and systems of a large and complex organization. Also, excellent oral and written communications skills are required. Strong leadership in community based skills preferred.
